Playing Options
There are many different playing options for players’ needs. Price, time, difficulty, location and demand are keys for players choosing when, where and how often they play. Many people don’t have enough spare time to play a full 18 hole round of golf. The following list show examples of playing options that can help accommodate most players’ needs.
18 hole rounds
The most common tee times are booked in advance to reserve preferred times. At most facilities they will allow you to book tee times even further in advance for an additional reservation fee. 18 hole tee times are priced based on premium times and demand needs for the courses. Most courses offer different price options. Early bird, peak rate, back nine, twilight and super twilight fees are available.
Early bird
These rates are offered at some facilities that have less demand in the early morning. These courses may be in areas that require some time or distance of travel to arrive. To encourage early play they may offer special rates that may include breakfast or beverages.
9 Holes
These play options are often either early or late tee times. The reason for these options are that it is not likely that you would have the opportunity to finish the full 18-hole round. This off peak time can be discounted and make it more affordable for some to begin to play golf. This option may also create an opportunity for golfers to play more often which can be a key to learning.
Twilight and Super Twilight
Another discounted option that may simply replace practicing on the driving range. At many practice ranges, a large basket of golf balls may cost $9-$12. A twilight fee may be more practical and provide a player a better option for golf course access and improvement. Times vary at different courses but they are generally related to when the sun sets and approximate amount of play a player can enjoy before dark!
