Playing The Course

In this section we will demonstrate many different aspects that should be learned and understood to play the golf course well. What makes golf so very special are the variables that no course is exactly the same.

Tee box angles

Understanding how to begin the hole is very important. Just a couple feet different angle from the tee box can change the playability and perspective for the tee shot. You should play from the right or left side of the tee box which can help give the best possible approach for each specific hole. Players generally have preferred shot shapes and knowing your tendencies allow you to make the best adjustments through angles and alignments to begin each hole.

Different Lies

Golf course variables such as slope, length and obstacles make for important in game adjustments. One of the most mis-understood factors is how slopes angles affect club to ball contact and ball flight. Remember to follow the gravity line of the course and make the necessary adjustments to hit playable shots.

Grass Types

Depending on the region and geography of the course, there are many different types of grass on golf courses. These grasses have different “playability” qualities. The thickness, moisture content and grain are important variables to learn to play different lies on the course.

Greens

The putting greens are the “dessert” of the course. There are many different “flavors” and designs. The slope and texture of the grass make most courses very unique. Learning to adjust to these variables is an important key to mastering the game. Read em, roll em, hole em!

Weather

What can you say, golf is an outdoor activity and subjected to incredibly different weather conditions. The air temperatures and ground temperatures have dramatic effects on the ball. It’s been said in England, “show me a person who doesn’t play golf in the rain and I’ll show you a person who doesn’t play golf!” Geographical regions have an impact on weather and course set up to with stand any weather conditions. Players learn to adjust accordingly.

General golf course care

Please replace your divots, fix your ball marks made on the greens and rake the bunkers. These are the three basic course maintenance and care responsibilities that golfers must learn. The game depends on cooperation and mutual respect to try and leave the course in the best condition possible for those players that play behind you.
