Avoiding Trouble

It’s not that golf course designers are sinister, well maybe some are (Pete Dye comes to mind), it’s that a golf course without some trouble is flat out boring. You’d be surprised how many golfers are more excited when they hit a great shout to get out of trouble than they are making a birdie putt. So what’s the first rule of trouble. Avoid it.

During your round, it’s important to think strategically around the course, so you hopefully avoid the big mistakes. I know it sounds obvious, but two pieces of advice are:

1) Play within yourself and make decisions based on your capabilities.

2) When in doubt play away from trouble. Safety first. It may add one stroke to your score, but it won’t add 3,4, or 5.
