Hitting a Stinger For Beginners

What is a stinger? A stinger is a full swing shot played with a lower, boring flight. These shots fly lower with less spin and drive through the wind for more control. Stingers can be hit with drivers, fairway woods and even long irons.

Three important keys to master the stinger:

  1. Move the ball slightly back in stance from the normal position. Not behind center of stance, but one or two balls back of normal.
  2. Neck and upper spine spine angle should be extended and more centered on top of the shot. Less tilt away through impact.
  3. Cover the ball with more rotation of the torso, swing more around the body into the finish.

Learning to hit the stinger can help the player control the ball flight and play more confidently in the wind or on tighter golf courses.
