Pitch Shot

What is a pitch? The pitch flies higher and lands softer on the green. Pitches do not roll very far once they land. These shots are very important to learn in order to get the ball close to the hole, giving the player a better chance to make the next putt.

Two important keys to remember when pitching is:

  1. Choosing a lofted club such as gap wedge, sand wedge or lob wedge.
  2. Playing the ball slightly back in the stance to encourage a descending blow.

A pitch shot requires a little more swing and speed than a chip so there is marginally more risk fo these shots.

A player who masters the pitch can learn more control, which leads to shooting lower scores.
